Self Defense Tips For Women - Long Dress & Tight Skirt Fighting Techniques

Lot of ladies wonder about this when they're dressed up in long dress or tight skirt (they often ask me): "How do I fight off a creep or a pervert when I'm dressed like this? I can't kick!"

Honestly, leg focused martial arts like Taekkyon, Savate, Beipai Kungfu or Taekwondo are completely ineffective for ladies in this situation. Because the training time of hand techniques is too little, even in some dojos they never teach it.

There are only 4 kicks that can be used by ladies while wearing a long dress or tight skirt: Stomp Kick, Sweep Kick, Groin Kick and Front Knee. The rest? Meeh...impossible! Even Cynthia Khan had to tear her police uniform skirt so she could using her Taekwondo kicks in “In The Line of Duty 3” movie fight scene.

Why do so many dojos teach methods that aren't suitable for ladies? It could be because the founders were all men (who didn't understand or care about the challenges women face) or because women in their countries wore trousers like men (like in Northern China, where women historically wore trousers, allowing them to execute high kicks just like the men).

Back when i was distributing surveys for my thesis (my topic was about Sports Psychology), i also encountered Silat dojos that would only teach men. When i asked why, the instructors said it was because their techniques relied heavily on high kicks, which unsuitable for women self defense.

For the ladies, i recommend hand focused martial arts like Boxing, Hokkien Kuntao, Nanpai Kungfu and Panantukan. Those ancient martial arts are also already proven over centuries in chaotic battles during colossal war era. You can fight the attackers even while wearing a long dress or a tight skirt, can’t do high kicks? No problem!!
