Based of technique focus, there are 3 types of wrestling sport:
1. Throwing Style
The oldest wrestling sport type recorded in history (ancient Greco Roman Wrestling), this wrestling sport type focus on throws.
Most common reason why the creators of throwing style arts created wrestling art like this was because they want to create wrestling art that focus on taking an opponent off position and make the opponent’s head dizzy - KO quickly without any punch or kick (Being thrown highly like that is make your head spinning wildly you know?!! Wrestling on soft mat is only protect you against hard surface).
2. Grappling Style
This wrestling sport type focus on submission holds like choke, jointlock and body pin.
Most common reason why the creators of grappling style arts created wrestling art like this was because they want to created wrestling art that focus on immobilizing opponent techniques which can be learned by weaker - smaller wrestlers (most grappling art creators have weaker - smaller body size than throwing style wrestlers).
3. Pushing Style
This wrestling sport type focus on pushing the opponent off balance.
Most common reason why the creators of pushing style arts created wrestling art like this was because they want to create wrestling art that focus on taking an opponent off position which can be learned by smaller - weaker wrestlers (same with the grappling arts, most pushing art creators have weaker - smaller body size than throwing style wrestlers. Except Sumo wrestlers, they are big guys who like tackling each other like Rugby players).
