Jujutsu (柔術) is one of many ancient japanese wrestling styles, developed for unarmed self defense in armored combat situation. The written history of Jujutsu first began during the Nara period (710-794).
Because punching or kicking an armored opponent is impossible, Samurai warrior use throws instead. The oldest known Jujutsu schools are Shinden Fudo Ryu (1130), Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu (1447) and Takenouchi Ryu (1530).
