Oldest Olympic wrestling style, the name “Greco Roman” was choosen as international name because it long history since the ancient civilizations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.
Considered as the most oldest wrestling style because its match format attempts to emulate the ancient “Upper Body Holds Only” rules of ancient Greece and Rome (forbidding any holds below the waist and leg grabs).
